Genba Chalo (the "App") is a Japanese language learning application for Indian technical intern trainees. This policy explains how the App handles your data.
Genba Chalo is designed to be offline-first. We do not collect any personal information. All your study progress stays on your device. The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous usage data to help us improve the learning experience, and sends anonymous daily progress snapshots to power progress reports (see "Progress Snapshots" below — you can turn this off in Settings at any time).
The App does not collect any personal information. Specifically:
The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous usage data. This helps us understand how features are used and improve the learning experience. The data collected includes:
This data is anonymous: it is not linked to your name, email address, or phone number, none of which the App collects. It does not include your notes, your quiz answers, or the study content you view. Analytics data is processed by Google in accordance with Firebase's Privacy Policy. Data is batched on your device and transmitted when a network connection is available.
The App uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports when the App encounters a technical error. This helps us find and fix stability problems. A crash report includes the device model, operating system version, app version, and technical information about the error (such as the screen where it occurred). Crash reports do not include your study content, notes, or any text you enter, and cannot be used to identify you personally. Crash data is processed by Google in accordance with Firebase's Privacy Policy.
To power progress reports for learners and the training institutions that support them, the App sends a small daily progress snapshot to our database (Google Firebase Cloud Firestore). Snapshots use a random anonymous learner ID generated on your device — it is not linked to your name, email, phone number, device identifiers, or any other personal information, which the App never collects.
A snapshot contains learning statistics for one calendar day:
Snapshots do not include your notes, your dictionary searches, your individual quiz answers, or any other text you enter. Because snapshots record when your study sessions took place, they do show the times of day at which you tend to study.
If you enter a group code (for example, one provided by your school or training organization), your anonymous progress becomes visible to that group's administrator, identified only by your learner code (shown on the Statistics screen). Never enter a group code from someone you do not know. You can remove the group code at any time in Settings.
Progress snapshots are enabled by default. You can turn them off at any time with the "Progress data sharing" toggle in Settings, and the App will stop sending them. To request deletion of previously sent snapshots, see our Data Deletion Request page, or contact us at the email below and include your learner code.
All data generated by the App (study progress, quiz history, daily statistics, notes) is stored locally on your device only. Apart from the anonymous progress snapshots described above, this data is not transmitted to any server. If you uninstall the App, all local data — including the anonymous learner ID — is permanently deleted, and a reinstall starts fresh.
The App uses Google Play Billing for subscription purchases. Payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment information (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.). Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles payment data.
The App uses the following third-party services:
The App does not use any advertising services or advertising identifiers.
The App is not directed at children under 13. The anonymous analytics data collected does not identify individual users and cannot be linked to any child.
The App may send local notifications (daily study reminders) if you enable them in Settings. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device and do not involve any server communication. You can disable them at any time in the App's Settings or through your device's notification settings.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
